BuzzFeed's History and Overview |
BuzzFeed News is an outlet from BuzzFeed which talks politics, pop culture, and current news. The actual company, BuzzFeed, is a private business which features news and entertainment. Founded on November 1, 2006 with co-founder Jonah Peretti. Before founding BuzzFeed, Peretti was the director of research and development at Eyebeam and experimented with viral media. He worked at Huffington Post and while working there started BuzzFeed as a side project with his former supervisor, John Johnson. Initially, they didn't employ any writers or editors since they just wanted to collet stories that were becoming viral across the Internet. Later on, as the site began spiraling popularity, they hired curators to describe the content.
Currently, BuzzFeed is a global news outlet for entertainment featuring topics on celebrities, food, politics, DIY home, and animals. BuzzFeed has various outlets for social media differing on a different topic. For example: BuzzFeed Yellow, now known as Boldly, is a YouTube channel that promotes girl power, Perolike promotes the Latina and Hispanic community, and Ladylike features a group of women that reviews products and experiences. BuzzFeed also has a Facebook page called Tasty which features instructional cooking videos and kitchen DIYs and hacks. The actual BuzzFeed website has a collection of all their outlets (Tasty, News, animals, podcasts, puzzles, quizzed, etc.) |
